To celebrate Janet Jackson‘s return to the stage in 2015 ahead of her comeback album Unbreakable, SoulBounce dedicated the entire month of August 2015 to the global superstar with our month-long campaign #31DaysOfJanetJackson. The concept of the project was spearheaded by myself and SoulBounce’s Editor-In-Chief Kimberly Hines.

The month-long event, which garnered attention from the Janet Jackson fan accounts on Twitter and Facebook (not to mention retweets and promotion from longtime Janet Jackson collaborator James “Jimmy Jam” Harris, III), featured a 30-day countdown of her singles, a curated Spotify playlist dedicated to the singer, two essays on her influence (including “The Janet Jackson Mystique” written by me), a list of her top dance videos, a rundown of her work with producers and two commissioned covers of her classic songs.

Though Kimberly and I worked together on the execution, I took creative control of the project from start to finish — including commissioning guest writers, artists and contributors.

The project in its entirety can be viewed here.
